I've added this song to the album Time to Choose because it reflects many of the same thoughts I had in writing the 2019 and 2020 musicals for camp Pok-O-MacCready. Bring Someone Else Along seems to be a fitting way to end this album. Here is the back story: As the keynote speaker at the Children’s Music Network Conference in Los Gatos, Oct 2016, Melanie DeMore shared the story of collective struggle. With community sticks, hand-made by a chorus she had directed, she sang and danced in the style of people who had been enslaved. At the end of her song, she placed one of the sticks in front of her and said that no matter how hard it must be, take that leap of faith and step across. But, when you have reached a better place, your journey does not end. Instead, go back and bring someone else along. I met John, Yvonne and their 5 girls at KindieCOMM in 2016. The week before the CMN conference in Los Gatos, John put out a call for us all to submit songs for a compilation album he was making to support the victims of Hurricane Matthew that had just devastated Haiti. I was pleased to have him include this song on the album. You can listen to the whole album "Singing Through the Storm" and learn about many other wonderful artists that contributed to the project. |
