Walking Slowly by Tim Seston Walking slowly through the forest Walking slowly past (the rock) You will notice what is happening If you don’t go fast Take it slowly Look around you Smell the pine trees wafting in the cool fresh breeze Hear the birdies Sing their wordies They’re reminding you to slow down please Walking slowly through the forest Walking slowly past (the rock) You will notice what is happening If you don’t go fast Hear the squirrels Hear the froggies Hear the wind – she’s whistling a brand new tune Hear the rabbits Hear the silence Take it slowly and come back soon. Rushing like a river as it rolls from left to right Picking up the pieces and removing them from sight What you left behind you is now scattered in the night Come and take a seat upon the rock Walking slowly through the forest Walking slowly past (the rock) You will notice what is happening Please don’t go too fast |
The songs for "The Rock" were written in collaboration with my 9 year old son Luke. In the middle of March, 2018, Luke was recovering from hip surgery to correct growth problems as a result of his cerebral palsy. While his brothers and mother were on vacation, Luke and I had a peaceful week at home. During this time we spent time together thinking about the musical and trying out different styles, key signatures, and melodies for The Rock. This song came from that very peaceful place that happens when you slow down and take in the moment. It will find it's place in the musical in Act 2 as we build to the climax but need a quick reminder of what is important. Likewise there will be some comic relief in the full scene. Though I haven't yet finished writing or casting this show, I believe this will be sung by a character like Bottom in "A Mid Summer Night's Dream" or a more relevant reference for the cast: Bing Bong from "Inside Out" |
