DNA On a Roll |
DNA by Tim Seston It’s your DNA C, T, G and A It’s what makes you you and also me too It’s your DNA, it’s your parent’s way To pass on the fun to each daughter and son When you breathe in Oxygen that’s a good start Your blood carries it from your lungs to your heart Your heart pumps the blood to your feet and your hands And also your muscles so that you can dance But . . . It’s your DNA C, T, G and A It’s what makes you you and also me too It’s your DNA, it’s your parent’s way To pass on the fun to each daughter and son When you eat bananas, some broccoli or fish Or chocolate cake or whatever you wish It goes to your stomach where it can digest And cells take the nutrients they like the best. But . . . It’s your DNA C, T, G and A It’s what makes you you and also me too It’s your DNA, it’s your parent’s way To pass on the fun to each daughter and son Before you were born this is what I have heard Two cells joined together and a miracle occurred And then in that moment when genes intermix A new cell has formed with its own double helix Yes – It’s your DNA C, T, G and A It’s what makes you you and also me too It’s your DNA, it’s your parent’s way To pass on the fun to each daughter and son It’s your DNA C, T, G and A It’s what makes you you and also me too. |
Luke and I were bouncing on the trampoline in the spring of 2014. The cadence of each bounce sparked this new song. With the science theme for the summer's library reading program I had DNA on the brain. The verses were written over a couple sunny day afternoons at play. Below is a picture of Luke and Owen at 1 month old and still in the NICU. They have identical copies of DNA. Lyric footnote and science fact: The nucleotide in DNA consists of: a sugar (deoxyribose), one of four bases (cytosine (C), thymine (T), guanine (G), adenine (A)) and a phosphate. |
